Manual Tranny Rebuild Kit?
Hello All,
I am looking into transplanting the 5spd manual from our dead 190E into my 300E but the tranny has 225k miles on it. If I'm going to all that trouble, I was thinking it might be worth rebuilding it first. Are the parts available? Is this something a competent DIYer can do? (I've rebuilt both diesel and gasser engines but never any kind of tranny.) I know it's due for a clutch/PP/throwout set, but that's all external. Any advise is welcome! Cheers, -Matt-

All parts for a manual trans are available here (USA)! HOWEVER that is one of the most difficult manual boxes to rebuild! MB used tapered bearings on the main shafts & require several special tools to set the correct pre-load!
A 190E trans won't take the torque that a 300E engine makes!

Unless there is something wrong with a manual transmission there is absolutely no need to rebuild it. If they are driven correctly they will outlast any other component of the car at least 3 to 1.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Good luck, |

Any more input? I am planning a trans swap in the 190D, picked up pedals, driveshaft, shifter + linkage, and a known bad trans (trans was free).
I could either look into tearing this one down, or buy one with 64K miles for $450. Thanks, John

Question:
Is the engine a 2.3 M102 4 cylinder or a 2.6 M103 6 cylinder?
