2000 c280 very rough idle shortly after cold start; Does this apply?
I recently purchased a 2000 c280 (m112) Sport with 55k miles on it, to replace my 190e 2.3. After the first start in the morning, on the way to work I get to a stop light about two and a half blocks from home and the car starts to shake and almost wants to die. It might hesitate after the light turns green, but after that, all is well until the next first start of the day.
In my search for information in this forum, I came across the following thread: ML320 Engine Stumble It sounds like it might be the problem, but I have a couple questions. One is, would this apply to my car? The other is where do I locate the ECM (engine control module) on this car to check the part number? I don't yet have a service manual. Also, if my car is affected, is there a link to the full service campaign bulletin? I Googled "Dealer Technical Bulletin 51/00" or even just Mercedes and 51/00 and came up with nothing. I understand that this should be covered under the emissions warranty. How do I approach a dealer service rep about this issue? Any and all advice is appreciated.

Oh my, you all and getting carried away with one TSB you read. You need to change the air filter. If anyone is getting a p0171 code on a 96 and newer Benz, 9 out of 9.9 cars the Mass Air Flow Meeter is bad. Plugged air filters and the ones like K&n cause this problem. Find a reputable repaire shop, and not just the dealer. Dont go messing with the ECM.

That info was from an "INTERNAL" dealer only memo!!
Yes that does apply to your car & IF your car has less than 80K then they should replace the ECU.... You may need to leave the car overnight & then show them exactly what the car is doing!

Thanks M.B.DOC. To GVB: I am not getting any codes and the CEL is off. I replaced the air filter two weeks ago. This problem has occured since I bought it.
Now the second part of my question is where is the ECU located on this car? I want to check the part number before I take it to the dealer. With my old 190e, it was located behind the battery, along with the ABS controller. Is it in the same general location under the hood of my c280?

The computer "box" is in the engine compartment at the RR area.
