Fan control buttons problem on 92 400E
 

My 400E (124 034) has interesting fan problem. If the car has been sitting overnight the fan works fine the first time I start it the next morning. Once the fan is turned off it refuses to come back on. When the fan works the cooling, heating and air distribution system works great, so I'm hoping that it's something with the control switch.

Any insights on anything regarding this problem would be greatly appreciated. I really like my 400E (the wolf in sheeps clothing) with 115,000 miles and with the exception of this problem it's flawless.

I had a similar problem on my 94 E320. The fan would work and then at some point it would stop for no apparent reason. With help from this forum, I found out there is a strip fuse on the driver side of the engine compartment, near the master cylinder, in a small black plastic enclosure with a flip top. This fuse is for the fan. After looking at the strip fuse and how it failed (hairline crack) I believe that temperature changes under the hood cause the intermittent nature of my fan operation. Sometimes it would make contact across the crack, sometimes not. I temporarily replaced it with a lug style fuse from Auto-Zone and my fan worked great. I later got the proper strip fuse so I could close the flip top and have had no problems since.

Thanks for your reply. I replaced the fuse where you suggested and still no fan. I'm wondering if the problem is the unit that the fuse is in. Any advice?

Worked for awhile and then...
 

The blower worked for awhile this morning with the AC blowing cold and then it just quit. I'm asking anyone out there who may be able to tell me if it could be the blower regulator, the blower itself, or is there some sort of temp sensor that I'm not aware of?

I wish I could offer more insight but my problem was solved with the strip fuse so I did not have to go beyond that. Hopefully someone else can chime in with some hints. Good luck.
