Hi again everyone.. .
When I opened the hood yesterday I discovered a little gadget that made me curious. It's called KAT EZL and looks like a potentiometer scaled 1-7 (where 4 and 6 is marked with S and N) Made a search in the forum but I couldn't figure out what it's for. Could anyone please brief me with a description. Thanks!

On euro models this is a timing correction for fuel quality!! Moving the dial can change the ignition timing by upto 10deg. Gasoline Quality can vary.

Thanks for your reply. I have to be honest and say that I didn't get much out of it. :)

What happens when I change the ignition by moving the dial?? How do I know I have the right adjustment?? I use 95 octan in the gas and the car is imported from Germany where, I guess, they use another composition in the gas. Is it something I have to try my way through or is there some kind of table saying "95 octan = KAT EZL 3".

What is the S and N short for??

EZL

The N means NORMAL gasoline in Germany with 92 octane.
The S means SUPER with 95 octane.
For the so called NORMAL Benzin (gasoline) the ignition timing is retard by approx. 10 degrees later to prevent knocking or ping which can destroy your engine. If you use the N position you will decrease also a little bit of power and increase a little bit the fuel consumption. Therefor
the best in my guess will be the S position and the use of 95 octane fuel.

emilio,

I use 95 octane petrol and the EZL is set on S...

Were your US indicators already on the car or did you install them yourself?
A lot of the US members on this forum change their indicators to the complete white euro ones...and the euro Benzers change to the US indicators :D (I like the US ones by the way).

My US indicators??

Mine is set on S too so I'll just leave it that way..

MBenzNL 03-26-2001 02:51 PM

Yep,

The early R129 SL had orange indicators and the later ones had white indicators. The two-toned indicators are US ones...any US members to back this up???
I saw a lot of R129 SL's with these US indicators in the south of France (St Tropez/Monaco)

Okey, ,, Now I'm with you. I haven't changed them so either it's the first swedish owner (I'm nr 2) or someone in germany who likes the US-style... :)
