Starting and idle problems
Hi,
I have to date spent close to $2000 on repairs, I am no closer to an solution. My local MB repair guy said we will work through the problems till we find the fault. The car has 150 000km (92 000miles) on it, it takes 4 tries of up to 4 seconds each to start, and then it starts slow. The idling is like one big misfire, it is very rough, almost like it runs on 6 cylinders only. Here is the problem, it is intermittend, does not idle bad all the time. If it comes to a stop at a light, it will start missing after 2 or three seconds only of idling (once the revs comes down) Once you punch the accelerator it goes just fine, touch the pedal slowly and not much happen, you need to really go down 2/3 to get response. Needless to say very heavy on gas. We replaced the following, Crank sensor, cleaned the pick up on the crank too, the rotors and distributor caps, plugs, both coils. Checked fuel presure and replaced filters. Next is the engine wiring harness, a further $1000 next week...... Any advice...PLEASE....? Thanks Willie:silly: |

What a headache! You need Air, Fuel, and a Spark to run your engine and it seems as though you've checked in most of these areas. However, it idles bad but runs fine once you punch it. It sure sounds like a fuel or air issue to me. I know you say the pressures are good, but what are the pressures at lousy idle and after you punch it?
I find it rather odd that your gas pedal has to travel 2/3 the way to get a response. Is the throttle sensor setup correctly? Didn't the mechanic find that to be odd? I don't understand changing all the ignition items if there was a good spark. You seemed to have changed everything in the fuel area except the pump itself. Also, in the area of Air, you didn't say whether you checked for a vacuum leak. Let us know what the outcome is. |

One of the things we replced was all the vacuum lines (visible ones at least)
The pedal dropping 2/3 down is a mistery. If it is in this state I can open the hood and push the throttle linkage about 2" without any response from the motor, almost as if the traction controll is detuning things....not sure how this works....some times starting up the ASR light comes on and stays on, then throttle response is bad. Switch of and try again and then it is sometimes normal. Problem is diagnistics is all over the scene. This tells me we need to replace the obvious, bad wiring and seeing that that is a comon issue we are doing that next. I will respond after the wiring issue. Thanks |
