how to repair a Tierod

Can someone give me the best way to repair a broken tierod. Mine is broken in the middle (red circle in the picture attached). The dealer sells the piece from one side to the other (its a one piece part) but I can afford it at this time.
My MB is a 99 c230 Kompressor

Thanks for your help

There's no picture attached, but every tie rod I have ever seen is a replacement item, not a repairable item.

i could offer better advice if the picture was properly attached, but the tie rod ends do show as being seperate and are part number 001-330-77-35 the whole drag link unit which on theis model incorporates the tir rod ends as well is mercedes number 202-460-04-05
post or email the picture before you buy

so, yes, you can replace just the tie rod, one side of the car at a time. one tie rod from a mb parts place such as fast lane one of the sponsers of this web site should be less than $50 i would think.

The tie rod end is a seperate part. But it is just the tie rod end. Not the tie rod. I tried that route before and all I got was the ends.

SORRY FOR THE IMAGE ISSUE!!! I don´t know what happened, I´m sure I did attach the pic, now that I try it again, there is a message "tie rod 2.gif:
You have already attached this file in thread : Tie Rod Question for W202 99 C230 Kompressor". But anyway, I am trying again, the circle (gray or black) shows where the tierod is damaged, broken. I soldered it just to bring the car back home. The dealer sells the part #56 in the image.

Thanks again for your time

Wow! If I am seeing your circle correctly, the tie rod is broken in half. I wouldn't fix something like that - Replace it with a new one right away.

You have to replace the whole drag link assembly as one unit, the tie rods are not a separate part ,only the tie rod ends.
You should not try ro repair this part, if you can't afford to replace the parts you can't afford the car !!

What I want to know is how did you break it!!!? Anyway, you could probably get it welded I suppose. But the cost of the drag link is not that bad. And depending on the mileage it might be worn out anyway. Mine was.

You "soldered" it?

With solder?????

i would say to replace the entire unit, mainly for safety sake

t walgamuth 06-04-2006 10:55 PM

i dont know of any reason to replace the whole thing.

a new tie rod seems logical to me.

but... what caused it to break?

i can't imagine any way to do that.

if it is broken where he indicated, that is part of the main tire rod assy. which on this model incorporates the drag link assy, did you see the picture above?

carlosr23 06-05-2006 08:35 AM

I get the point. I will have to change the whole part and I´ll do it. The price of my dealer is $ 325.00!!! and by the way, I live outside US. I got the piece welded (not solded, sorry for my english). Thanks all of you for the time spent answering my question!

THANKS

mpolli 06-05-2006 01:33 PM

Do you plan on putting it in yourself or having someone else do it?

Mike

oh, i see. i looked but didnt pick up on the fact that it is not like a 123 or 126. sorry.

you are correct.
