Blower fuse location
 

I have a 1992 300D 2.5 turbo diesel. Blower motor sounded a 'little loud' on start-up the last few days, now it doesn't blow at all. I need to know the EXACT location of the blower fuse(fusebox says an external fuse box). I dread getting into the blower motor but my independent guy is on vacation this week. Where is a good source for the motor and can I get one without brackets, ect. as the archives mention? TIA Ernie in Louisville

Mine (90 300CE) was under the hood, by the shock tower, infront of the fuse box, by the switch for the alarm for the hood. Its a small balck box, about 1.25inches long, .5inches wide. Opens to the side with a metalic strip inside. Had to get the fuse from the dealer, .25cents, lol.

Not sure if yours is the same, but hope it helps...

Checked it out. Took the blower motor cover off and the motor wouldn't fire up. When I nudged it it started--dry bearings? I took it out and oiled it with some real good furnace motor oil called turbo oil. Cleaned it all up and reassembled. Works good. I wonder how long it'll last? By the way, the Behr conversion had already been done. I was so proud of saving money on this fine car that I waxed it for the rest of the afternoon. Thanks for the info. Ernie in Louisville

If the motor shaft has axial play it's not long for this world. Some folks are able to source and replace the bearings and brushes. The rest of us buy a new motor :)

Didn't last long!
 

Drove the Benz some today and let it sit. Got in it this evening and no fan motor. There wasn't a whole lot of axial play but the bearings are dry. Have to get a new motor. Has ANYBODY had success removing the squirrel cage fans? A search the other day didn't explain how to do it. TIA Ernie

Use a press. You can use a hammer but cradle the new motor properly so you don't end up with axial play before the new motor sees service.
