Question Coolant smell when a/c is on (380sl)

Every once in a while when I turn th a/c on I get a slight smell of raditor coolant. As I read many posts on this matter I suspect that the heater core is leaking. As replacing the core is very expensive I was thinking of by-passing the heater core. The car is located in florida where I never have use for heat. Any thoughts on this from anyone?

The Mono valve is easy to block off. Just plug the line going to it, and the line going back into the block. Dissconect the aux pump though
