EIS replacement - Bought new iScan
Hey guys,
Anyone ever replaced an EIS before? I am totally clear on what to do up until the point I have to program my old keys to the new EIS. I have an EIS programmed to my VIN, will download the coding from the old EIS via iScan and transfer to the new EIS, but I am not sure what the "green key" does or how to program my old keys. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Put the green key in the EIS, until the light goes out in it- that tells it what car it's in. Then do your coding, then insert each key- it may say processing data on the cluster- wait until that goes out, then its done.

The one area you may wind up having difficulty with is "activating" the EIS. I am not 100% certain that any of the aftermarket scan tool has the "Activate EIS" operation incorporated in their software. You may need to tow it to the dealer to have the EIS turned on...

Hmmm....
Not sure on that. The iscan will perform "transport unprotection" and "adaptation coding". From what I can tell the "activation" is performed with the "Green Key" One very odd thing i found though: Car refuses to start - no crank I plug in the iscan and clear the codes - car starts right up I can turn the car off for a minute or so and it will start right back up HOWEVER, if I wait a couple of minutes - until the can goes to sleep - the car will not start unless the codes are reset again. It really looks like one of the modules is putting bad data onto the can and causing the car not to start. I suspect it is the EIS but the code I am getting "C1026" refers to an Airmatic CAN communication failure.. Does anyone know where all the can busses are located? I found one under the dash and one in the drivers footwell. I think there is one more somewhere that has the Airmatic module on it. Thanks! |

I believe the Green Key is utilized to transfer the unlock sequence to the EIS as well as the initial information about the vehicle. It may also trigger a "learn key(s) program." Activating the EIS is a seperate operation, manually performed with the SDS unit. If you are able to get it to start than I would think some of the functions are present, however there may be some functions that are not "online" yet. I do not know how deep the I-scan will take you into the EIS's many different layers of information and installer level "version coding."
The replacement EIS needs to learn the digital coding of each key, each key can take up to 90 minutes to be learned into the system. When the key rotates in the EIS unit the key has been learned and it is authorized to start the car. |
