300CE Wont Start

HI,

I did a search, but still have questions. Car is a 90' 300CE-24, W124.

Pulled in the drive way, came in the house to get something when I went back out, car wont start.

I checked the coil, acording to the Service Manual, no resistance, seemed the coil was bad, so I walked to the parts store and bought a new coil. Still no start. Engine turns over normally. I exchanged the OVP with a spare, still nothing. Coil has voltage, when ignition is turned on.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

More test results.....

There is only 12v comming out of the coil with the ignition switched on and during start. Should be higher no?

According to the service manual test for the ignition system, all is good. Voltage from pin 5 to ground, and no voltage across pin 4 and 5.

Thanks again for the input...

Before the days of scanners and still valid today is the saying"fuel or fire". I suggest you pull the high tension lead at the coil and hold it a few mms away from the terminal with an INSULATED plug wire puller while someone cranks the engine. If you have a healthy spark, it's a fuel problem. If no spark, it's ignition .
Good luck

Dean, it could be that the ignition control module (mounted on the inside of the left front fender -- has one 8 pin connector, one 3 pin connector and one 1 pin connector, plus a vacuum line) has gone bad. A similar thing happened to our daughter's 1991 300CE last September and had the car towed to the local MB dealer for diagnosis. Fortunately I had another 300CE that I swapped the ignition control module from ... still looking for a salvaged ignition control module for the other 1991 300CE. The module new is $1,500 ... and 2 are backordered for the entire USA. They are extremely difficult to find because so few 104 engines were sold in the USA.
