My 93 190E 2.6 oil pressure gauge stay at 3 when the switch is turn on and at idle. It stay there all the time when car is moving.The minimum it drop is about 2.8 when the
engine is idling(sometimes) What is the normal reading for oil pressure ?Maybe i have a problem with the sender Where is the location of the sender unit?thanx

u don't, long as it reaches 3 when it is in motion. consider urself lucky. my 560 goes down to 2 when idle and 1 1/2 with the 400E

Check the connector

It may be loose or corroded. It should drop to 1 bar or lower at idle when warm. Varies from car to car. With an open circuit, it will go full scale. Sending unit is on drivers side of the sump.

006-542-94-17 is part number for oil pressure sender,(is locate at oil filter housing with only one wire) hope this help

Is there a way to clean or fix the sending unit without replacing it? Mine spikes to 3 as soon as you turn the key on and stays there.

I want to apologize for my misinformation re: the location of the sending unit. I was erroneously referring to the oil level sending unit. Well look!!, I'm getting old and senior moments and brain farts are becoming a way of life. "Instead of calling it oil pressure, let's call it oil stress".

See what I mean.. Mr. Bill, you can try disconnecting the lead and cleaning the contact on the unit and the clip on the lead...but, if it ain't too corroded or dirty you may need to replace it. Good price here at Parts Shop.

There is is mate. Hey, you're as bad as me!! The oil filter housing is behind the air cleaner box on the driver's side of the engine, I think, maybe, well it was the last time I looked, who moved it?? no wait, there it isn't..what color is it?? I can't read the part number, hell I can't see the part number.. OK Jeff, shut up already..

Radiator drain on the left side underneath. Remove the underside shield. Red in color. I would not mess with trying to open a block drain. Disconnect the hoses, remove the thermostat and flush the block with a hose with the engine running. When it comes out clear, you're all set. You might want to try the citric acid flush thing as well before you add the coolant. The block drain is, if I can remember, on the driver's side below the intake manifold. Flushing with hose is easier and does a good job. There are other posts on this subject. Do a search on flush or coolant system flushing.

Chances are that nothing is wrong. MB's oil pressure gauge is more like an idiot light than a gauge (on all models except V8s). The actual engine oil pressure probably runs from about 3bar (around 45psi) at idle to about 6-7 bar at higher rpms (I'm guessing as I haven't tested the 103 motor-they never have oil pressure problems).

Very early MBs like 190SLs had full range guages and MB got tired of explaning the variety of reasons for 10-20% pressure changes, so they wiped out the top of the range/gauge.

V8 oil pumps work differently. They get as low as a single bar at idle.

thanks jeff,but somebody told me its located under the exhaust manifold(passenger side)now im confuse.Why do tell me not to mess with drainplug of the block?

Ron, it could be, but I seem to remember seeing it on the right side. Anyway, it's always easier to do the flush thru the system with clean water rather than just draining the block. The hose method stirs up all the crud that has settled and gets it moving and out of the block. You can do the block drain as well. Pick your poison. Personally I like a power flush with the hose and engine running.

Wrong re the drain. Is on the left side. The hoses are both upper and lower radiator hoses. Remove both from radiator. Both on the right side of radiator. Thermostat housing is at the other end of the upper radiator hose. BTW if you have the black plastic thermostat housing, replace it ASAP with metal one (they always break at the worst possible time. Mine let go on a Sunday afternoon on 5th Avenue in NYC). Remove the three 10mm capscrews, remove the thermostat and replace the cover. Take your garden hose and push it into the lower radiator hose. Turn on the water, start the engine and watch what comes out the top hose. Of course drain the radiator and use ecological common sense when dealing with used coolant. Do a search on flushing or flush. It will give your some good info on how to proceed..
