190e 2.3-16v exhaust hanger, can it be welded?

Some time ago the exhaust hanger that goes from the side of the transmission (roughly under the passenger's seat) to the cat pipes on my 16v was ripped off. I kept the piece, but the car has been without for 2 years now. Can it be welded back on? I'm thinking of putting a complete timevalve replacement on it, and would like to do the work at one time.
