How much to pay for the labor in changing pads/rotors?
 

I have a neighbor who is a fine mechanic who has offered to change my pads and rotors (front). I wonder how much to pay him? How many hours is involved? Thanks for your replys

If I have no obstructions, and the right tools, I can change out pads, and rotors on a w123 in slightly over an hour (with NEW bearings), and I'm NOT a mechanic. Can't imagine a 124 taking much longer (I'm assumming it's a 124, right? Try putting more info in your signature). Do yourself a favor and hang out while he does it. Brakes are one of those things that I don't understand why more people don't do it themselves. Very easy work.

Unless you absolutely are not handy, they are very easy to do. As to the neighbor, are u supplying parts or is he?

MB Dealer rate per hr ave about $90. Local garage rate ave about $50. If I'm doing this, it might take me 2 hours tops with parts on hand using floor jacks (no lifts).

Note that there may be related activities to make sure you have a complete and safe refurbishment: greasing of caliper pins, replacement of any rubber seals and/or boots that need it, wear sensors if your car has them.

I would agree that two hours once all tools and supplies are on hand and ready to go should be sufficient time.
