Need - Torque Specifications to remount the calipers

I want to remove my calipers to paint them – Here in Western New York they are starting to rust and look junky. I do not want to disconnect them from the flex line – just need to get them off of the spindle so that I can paint them.

I also want to clean up all the brake components as I am at 15,000 miles… pull out the pads, service the slides, and re-lubricate the assemblies…spec everything and record it - to check once i get the specs to check against...

I am looking for the Torque Specifications to remount the calipers. (Torque for the caliper retaining bolts)
Does any one know this specification – I have ordered a set of Service CDs from Europe – but do not have them yet.

Any help would be great!

Thanks
Jake

I don't have your model but

It's usually 85 ft-lbs, and you need blue LocTite.

The torque for the caliper mounting bracket to the steering knuckle is 85ft-lbs, but the caliper guide pin bolts torque is 18ft-lbs.

nothing wrong with removing them, but i painted mine red by putting rags around the caliper and cleaning and painting the caliper. they look good, imho.

i don't think your supposed to reuse the caliper mounting bolts - double check.

And I don't htink your supposed to clean the brakes with brake fluid if your going to paint them, wash them in detergent and water.

Are you going to spray paint the calipers with the system still attached by the brake hose? cause paint will atomize and land on everything.

Thats a nice car you have.

thanks guys - this information is the same as the Dealer...

I am not sure if the bolts are torque to yeild - stretching bolts like a head bolt / stud...I will look into this...I would re loc tite...

I may just brush paint them on...this is the two part caliper kit paint set...it is not a spray - I wish it were but I do not want to bleed the brakes with the ABS module...otherwise I would pull the calipers and spray...

I think I can get it to look good by hand...5 years or Art/Design school better pay off...

thanks for the compliment on the car...which one the w123 or w203???
I love them both!

Caliper bolts

They are not torque to yield. The book tells you to use new ones because of the encapsulated loctite on the bolts: the little microbeads break when you use the bolt. I just use blue loctite.
Do I know everything? Probably not. Will you ever know the exact right answer to this question? No. If you need the extra peace of mind, buy new bolts, but if not then definitely use loctite.
