a/c compressor pulley locked

My compressor has not been engaging..so i just have been doing without a/c until i had time to figure it out.

Well it seems like the pulley locked up. i tried to start the car and the belt started smoking and gave ( i didn't realize it had cracks in it anyway).

all of the pulleys turn except for the a/c.

Time for a new compressor? It's on the 1989 CE

My 93 300e did the same exact thing. So I took my belt off to see if my car would start ok. After I made shure everything was ok, I took off my compressor, and the allen head bolt that holds my hose assembly to the unit was stripped out. I had cut the high side hose just to remove it. So now I have to replace the whole hose assembly. How far have you gotten with repairing yours.

i start pulling tomorrow...my belt broke (it was also heavily ed which i couldn't see under normal inspection)

i'll probably pull the dryer and the compressor tomorrow...i ordered parts and they will be here monday... i ordered an expansion valve, but a new one was put on right before i bought the car last year. So i am not sure if i will replace it.

my compressor stopped working a few weeks ago, but the pulley still turned...in hindsight, I think bearings were going bad because under some circumstances you could hear the bad bearings... for all i know the internals on the compressor might still be ok. it will just be a door stop now.

i started the car up and drove a mile home from work the other night....i couldn't believe how quiet the engine was with no belt.. LOL

I had just ordered my parts yesterday, and was bored, so I pulled the clutch assembly off. The berrings were worn and the windings that powers the clutch were smoked. My compressor stopped working two weeks ago and started chattering really bad. It locked up on me Thursday, so I guess thats a common thing after so many miles. It was a perfect time of the year for something like this to happen, its like an oven here in Charleston! Keep me updated on how your install goes.

lol

I guess this is a thread of two...

i'll send you a private message on my further progess... i did yard work today and only got to removing the drier...

i jacked up the car and I am trying to get leverage for that allen screw...it won't ...so i am wd-40-ing it...

i think it's the original compressor...

i am using an allen wrench on my 3/8" drive.. i think i may have to attach a 1/2 adapter and use a bigger ratchet...

not as hot up here in Greenville... i am off to the lake tomorrow... i would rather spend a day at the lake and be without the car for a day or two... i am only 1.5 miles from work.

btw...you have a great asset in Charleston.... Ron in SC has rebuilt a lot of systems...
