I have a 1987 560SL. I am having some problems. Firstly the cars is idleing to fast, is there a way to adjust this? Secondly, When I let go of the accelorator the car starts to accelorate and decelorate, accelorate and decelorate when I reach 50 MPH to about 40 MPH. Has anyone experienced this.
Thirdly, I feel my stering wheel vibrate when the stering wheel is turn towards the left. I hear a sound that sounds like if the wheel were rubbing agaist the car. No sound or vibration when turning right.

Help is appriciated

Bill

First, the varying engine speed problem is probably fuel injection-related, and my wild guess is a vacuum leak. The grinding sound when you turn the wheel one way is probably a wheel bearing failing or, less likely, a dragging brake/frozen caliper on the side opposite (that's right, opposite) the direction you must steer to produce the noise. Have the wheel bearings and front brakes checked right away, as either problem is a safety issue that could possibly cause a fire at the faulty wheel.
Good Luck

Colin,
Thanks for your reply. I will look into the vaccum leak. I have used fuel injector cleaner adatives. I will take it in to have the injectors cleaned out. Regarding the noise. I don't think it is a brake problem. I had the noise before the brakes were fixed/changed. Does the 560sl have wheel bearings? I was told it did not.
Thanks so much for responding.
Bill :)
