Intermittent smell when starting
Not sure if I am imagining this or not, but on my '85 500 SEL, now and again when I start the engine, I can smell a sweet smell, which seems to smell like fresh paint. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Thanks

coolant usually smells sweet depending on the type you use, have you had to add coolant in the past? |

Pretty sure that's the smell of coolant. If you spilled any on any of the under-hood components (alternator, valve cover, compressor, etc.) it will burn and smell like that. Learned from experience ... several times.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will check out the coolant. Only had the car a week or so, so I haven't noticed any coolant leak yet.
