Hi,
I have to change the rear oil lip seal crankase on my CLK 430 tha has now 210.000 Km.............:)
I am preparing myself but i woul like to know the gearbox weught as i have to do the job alone.........
I hope i will be able to do the job becaus ei can jack the car just enought to disconnect the trensmission ( 60 cm ) as i do not have the possibility to go in a shop....
any suggestion?

My guess is 40kg. Remember that you will be on your back or your chest so all the strength to manipulate the transmission will have to come from your arms. If you're working alone you will need a transmission jack or at least a floor jack. Even if you're not working alone it is the safest way to remove and install a transmission. Figure that the floor of the car has to be high enough for the height of the transmission and jack. If you use a regular floor jack, also the height of a wood block so the jack saddle doesn't damage the transmission pan.

I really agree with you, i will use a little jack for the transmission but I think i will build some kind of wood device tu put under the oil pan or bettre somethingh to put before and after the oli pan........if possible.
Alos fo my securuty my father will surveille me........
i think I will be able to move 40 Kg with my arm ........i hope ....the position is not the best...

I changed my 722.6 recently...the box weighs 80kgs! (I needed to weigh the old one to get a shipping price) .....it is heavy and, using a ramp, it took 3 of us to lift the box + torque converter back up to the engine.

Tip.....remove the box only first and then the torque converter but then replace the box and TC together (This ensures that the two prongs on the tc are located properly in the transmission front pump and also eliminates the risk of damaging the TC seal)

thanks, 79 kg is too much......now i am not sure if i will be able to do the job without a professional jack in the shop.........
i have to think....did you the job in your garage or in a shop?

I did the work in a friends garage and used a four post lift.......i would advise you to do the same if possible, its definately not the kind of job to do on your back.
