AC wont kick in on 1997 C180
i've posted some other post and asking some of the stuff like i do in here...
This is what i've done and checked out of other post's i've read.. 1 compressor turns 2 Aux Fan turns when engine reach 185-195 F.. or 80-90 C 3 Cluch doesnt kick in (it does when jumping it, tested with motor of) 4 temp of center vent feals like outside air, but get's worm when temp wheel is tunred to hot 5 According to merc dealer who did a "quick" test with a screwdriver high press should be ok 6 no fuse has blown 7 cant see any leaks but might be a tiny tiny one... Anybody got a step 8-13 or something ??? Would love to have this up'n running If i have to charge up now, after 9 years.. should i flush it too or just add r134 + Oil ?? Some days the AC worked on and off, if i stoped the car for 5 sec and started again AC would work.. then after doing that for aprox 1 week it stoped working completly thnks in advcane guys.. |
I have no idea what steps 8 through 13 consist of, but I do know that you missed step 1. Connect manifold gauges and check pressures. Post them here, then we can help further.
Good luck, |
hmm
yeah i forgot that part, i'm getting a pressure tester tuesday :-)
Got load of work on monday so wont have time then |
something strange happend today
today after driver for aprox 45 min, doing a stop out at a customer for aprox 30 min, the AC kicked in all of a sudden... But after toping the fueltank the fuel "gauge/meter/tank dial" (not sure what it's called) stands at empty. It goes to full again if i stop, and turn key to position 1, then start the car, AC still works....
If the AC kicked in now isnt the "low freon" kinda out of the question then ? or can it still just be low on it and thats why it's now kicked in after not working for 1 week ???? I talked to the prev. owner of the car and he said it's been kinda weird working for last 6 months... that every now and then he had to turn AC of, then set fan speed to 3, and after a minunte or two turn AC back on and it worked... Hope anybody can help me out a bit here.... |
The most common reason I've seen for the compresor not engaging, assuming it's not burned up, is low freon, usually caused by a leak in the system. Sometimes the leak is so slow that you can get away with adding a little each cooling season. The pressure reading will prove this out. Good luck,
