Question mercedes 190e no fuel pressure?

i have a 1985 mercedes 190e, with a 2.3 gas motor. for about a month, i started hearing a wining noise towards the back of the car, i guess? i thought it was my fuel pump going out. it was also taking longer to start when cranking. one day, it started to die out at stop signs, but, i was able to get it home. then it would just crank and not start. i poured some gas down the injection system, and it would start and run for a second. did this a few times, started every time, til the bowl ran empty. i said ok, it has to be the fuel pump, but was leary of replacing, being they're so high. took the pump off and tested it on the battery, it runs. i put the fuel pump back on, turn the key, and it comes on for a couple seconds. i jumped the relay, and the pump will run constant. i took the fuel filter off, it had dirty gas roll out, and was totally clogged. i replaced the filter. still wouldn't start. it's not getting fuel to the front of car. gas seems to drain out of the hose from the bottom of the tank. here's my questions? is the fuel pump weak, and though it will run for a couple seconds, not pumping enough fuel forward? even when i jumped the relay, and the pump runs constantly, it's still not getting fuel to the front. does my car have two pumps? when the parts stores call for one. i've read where it could be a accumulator. what is this and where is it located, and how do i tell if it's bad? any help would be appreciated!!! thanks!!!
