brake light---ml 320

Had new pads on front "less" than 20000 miles ---dash light now is on at times?
No sound at all coming from brakes. Ml320 2003 model has 53,000 miles.
Could this be a light problem ? or something else? Wont brakes make the common chirp sound or grind. Thanks for any input.

They won't necessarily make noise. Your car probably has wear sensors and the pads have worn down to the sensors. It won't be long before it'll be metal-to-metal contact with the rotor. It is the nature of the system for the dash light to go on and off. You need your pads changed, again. Putting off the work can result in a more expensive $$$ repair.
