Guy’s

Have some troubles with the idle of my 1985 MB 280se (M110)
Some one told me to replace the idle by-pass I removed the part and there seems to be something loose inside.
The MB part n°=000 049 17 65
He told me it could be the auxiliary air valve too! N° 000 141 15 25
How can the parts be tested, they are very expensive +/- 230$ each!
Thanks for any help

The first number you gave doesn't come up and the group ID 049 wouldn't exist.

The second part you gave is the additional air valve for your car and has a MB list of $125. It is a thermostatically closed air slide. It fits into the block beneath the intake and gives extra air when cold similar to a fast idle on a carburated car with a choke. Its only function is that of a throttle. It is not responsible for mixture control and can't cause an engine to run badly just at the wrong speed (unless it is some kind of airleak (which would be more of a hose problem).

The most common failure of aux air valves is to not close and result in too high of an idle.

rectification

stevebfl,

the group ID 049 has to be000 094 17 65, sorry, and I think that's de one who gives me the problem!
That's why I would like to now if it is normal to hear something loose in it!

Well, I have never seen a car with one of those valves. It appears from the parts film to be a decel valve. It is teed into the inlet and outlet hose of the aux air valve with a vacuum line going to a third port. Based solely on the place of installation I would say that it is intended to add air on decel either for emissions or idle stabilization.

I don't suppose it should rattle, but if you plugged all three ports it would work like most 110 engines worked and eliminate any problem that you think it might cause.

bridge?

Stevebfl,

What do you mean, can I make a bridge so that I don’t use the “part” anymore?

Bridge? I don't see no stinkin bridge!

Did I say something about a bridge? I did state that based on the parts picture if you plug all three rubber hoses that enter the valve, the car should "for diagnostic purposes" run as most M110 engines did.

What is the meaning of "stinkin"

Stevebfl,

The “stinkin” bridge :I pull off the two hoses and connect them together with a little tube, so I don’t use the part anymore, and you now what…it works!!(stinkin or not)
What’s your opinion?

Marc,
