Can anyone give me some help to repair/replace the outside temperature indicator in my '87 300SDL?
The indicator is partially blacked out and it either reads 45 or 55 constantly. Things like where any sensors or electronics are located and any tips replacing the readout in the instrument cluster would be helpful. TIA P E H |
You will have to remove the cluster with a specail set of pullers called dash hooks. You can purchase anything needed in partsshop.
Once removed, the instrument cluster will need to be taken apart to access the display. You will need to replace the sensor as well. |

Where is sensor located? Where do I get the special dash hooks? Price? P E H |
It's located beside or behind the front nr.plate. Looks almost like a hinge!!

Emilo,
I found the sensor. It is in the front bumper behind the front license plate. I think that is the only place where it isn't affected by the heat from the engine. However, I could see it indicating much higher than air temperature in slow city driving especially if I am near the car in front. P E H |

I believe this thread has your answers... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/14376-outside-temp-lcd.html |
Thanks Barrie. That series of posts is a big help.
