190e air conditioner

Hi, I'm a long time MB owner and have just purchased a 93 190e 2.3 from my neighbor. She told me it has a slow freon leak and she has been having it charged once a year for the past 5 years. The car has been converted to 134a and it took 2 cans for the pressure to reach 45/225 however the high side gauge needle is almost like vibrating over a 25 pound range and system gets lukewarm at best. Since I wasnt familiar with who had been working on the car I evacuated the system just to rule out air in the system and recharged but no change. There did seem to be a huge amount of oil coming out of the system and I'm wondering if whoever was charging it before has added too much oil. I know the highside fluctuation could be a compressor problem too but wanted to check if anyone else has ever had these symptoms. What I'm thinking of doing next is replacing the compressor, drier, and expansion valve, flushing the rest of the system and going back to
R-12. Any advice would be appreciated..Thanks in advance Mike

mike,r134a has much smaller molecules and will leak out of the old original hoses over time[6 mnths] the condenser is only half as big as it needs to be for using 134.if you want it to be cold goback to r12 and you will be pleased with the result. david poole owner european performance dallas tx.
