95-E320Cabriolet- Problem with the top.
Hi All
What are some reasons for my top not going back up? It went down just fine but now stuck won't go up. The windows are working fine. What am I looking at here. Problem wise/cost involved etc. Thanks in advance. |
What does it do when you hit the button? Any noise or movement? Next step would be to read the fault codes.
|
No noise, nothing.
I dropped at MB dealership. Will have more info tomorrow. Tech mentioned something about the roll bar switch being stuck. I hope nothing to costly. I will have them put back up manually if big$$ involved. Hope to hear from others to get a feel for costs etc. Thanks for the fast reply. |
Hi
No info on fault codes for the top in owners manual. Only mention of codes is for radio, antithief cdplayer. Nothing about the operation of the soft top. |
A W124 Cabrio is a VERY expensive car.
Always will be. |

95 Benzman, what ended up the resolution of your convertible issues? I'm getting no movement out of mine now.
Thanks, dave |
Dave, first check for two things. One, make sure the hydraulic fluid level in the reservoir for the mechanism has the proper charge. Two, are you using the top with battery power only? Sometimes battery power isn't enough to operate the top and the top will fault.
Once those two check out, you should read the fault codes for your top. You use the same code reader that you should have for the Pin 8 and Pin 14 engine diagnostics. Codes for the Cabrio Soft Top (CST) are accessed at a 4-socket connector (X11/12) at the right passenger footwell. From the inside, it's under the carpet against the firewall and under the steel panel. To avoid the need for an extension cable, connect the black lead from the code scanner to any good ground and the red lead to a battery + source inside vehicle. For a list of codes and their meaning, go to page 65 in the following link below. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/1039/mercedes/cs1000_mb.pdf |
