Hi-Temp Thermostat
 

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a higher temperature thermostat? Im curious as to whether or not it would be worthwhile, Radiator and its sytems are fine, just seems to run hotter than Im comfortable with

model? year?

Ditto on the model and year.

I think you mean a lower temp thermostat. Understand that these cars run a little hot at low speed (stop & go traffic, at idle). If you install a lower temp thermostat, you're going to reduce the on-the-road temps, and adversely affect your fuel efficiency.
While excessive heat is a bad thing, lower temp is not necessarily a good thing.

Do not install a lower temp thermostat. It will do nothing to control the top end of the temp range, it only controls the min temp. Running cooler than the car is designed is not a good thing. If it really is running hot, your problem lies elsewhere.

ali is right. but you need to check and see what stat you have. it could be a wrong one. they make several ranges.

The model/year is a 89 560sl, your replies are appreciated as well as helpful, I never subscribed to the theory that any t-stat other than a factory spec one is required, just needed experienced advise from people who dont just drive Chevys (ha-ha) Again Thanks!

One application for using a higher temp thermostat is to help reduce emissions, in case your car is marginal and you have a smog test in your area.
O/W stick with the specified one (89C?)
