No gas smell = no gas leak?

I have a new to me 1988 300 SEL and I'm in the process of replacing filters changing fluids, etc. Changed the fuel filter today (car has 92,000 miles on it and I don't have any maintanence records, so I'm just assuming that it's never been done). In the process of doing this I must have torqued the fuel pump because after I put everything back together I had no leaks from the filter, but a small leak between fuel pump and fuel line. Tightened it up, and no visible leak. Put some baby powder on it, and discovered it still had a small leak. Tightened it again and now no leaking. The paranoid part of me is, well, paranoid. If I can't smell any gas now, is that a pretty sure sign that there is no leak or do I need to replace the fuel lines and copper washers to be safe? Input from anyone with any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

do you know any midgets? when someone farts in a crowded elevator, they're always the first to know.

Perhaps I was a little too generous when I said that "input from anyone with any thoughts on this would be appreciated". :)

sorry, couldn't help myself. if there is no fuel odor to be seen or smelled, there really is nothing to be concerned about.
