15K on cars I could care less about years ago. On the Benz's I stick to the oil change recommendations on both. 3K-4K for the W201 on Synth. 10K for the W203 but once the warranty is up that will change to 7K or maybe sooner. Will be able to tell when I change the oil next which will be early. Want to see what the oil looks like when it comes out.

I once owned a Datsun B710 for 3 years. Never changed the oil once. It burned 1 1/2 qts. a week though. There was probably fresher oil in that car at any given time than most properly maintained cars. Filter never got changed. Became a demolition ride.

Fourteen years...

Fourteen years, 300 miles...
Special circumstances.
Dodge Ram running on propane, used for getting firewood from the forest.

I changed the oil before we sold it, the oil was still clean, and I burned it in the fuel tank of a Chevette Diesel.

I change the oil/filter in all my vehicles every 3k miles. However, I have a friend who bought a new Chevy Astro van and had the oil changed about three times over ten years. He would brag about his lack of care and how it never broke down. Not only is he bad on maintenance he never washes or cleans the interior of his vehicle. Six months after he bought it the van looked worse than a New York City taxi. This guy can trash a vehicle faster than anybody I've met.

Ahhh-ha!

I'm with you. If I had gone long enough for it to be noteworthy, I'd certainly be embarassed to say so on this forum. I cringe whenever I see people who obviously don't take care of their cars. When I see them broken down in the middle of a busy intersection, I'm always tempted to roll down my window and say, "Ahhh-ha!" like Nelson on The Simpsons.

Back in school, I was told about a young woman with a Ford Pinto who had the "red light" on the dashboard come on, and the car quit on her. It was the oil light, and when asked when she last changed the oil, she came back with a blank stare! She never had. The car was about 4 years old. The oil came out in chunks, and the engine was fried.

I changed the oil on my Crown Victoria every 2000 miles and it turned out to be the most troub le free car I ever owned.

About every 3500 miles is enough for most cars now I think
