97 E320 51K, have owned since new. At times it seems the car shifts jerky, slipping, occassional thump. Dealer says it's OK, no error codes etc. My other two cars shift flawleesly 99C230K and 2000 500 SL.

97 bothers me enough to think about trading for something else, although I enjoy the car.

Anybody else had this problem with this model year?

How often do you change your transmission fluid? I usually disregard what they recommend and usually change it at least once a year depending on milage. If it's been a while for your car you might want to consider dropping down the valve body and cleaning it. Install new filter and gasket and put some fresh MB trans fluid.

My 97 e320 has similar tranny problems.
From a standing start, it feels as if
the drivers seat is loose or slack is
being taken up in the tranny. My dealer
says no problem, but I am not satisfied.

If you decide to change the tranny fluid,
be aware, this is the new "lifetime fluid"
version. There is no dipstick, and no
change interval.

Response to posts on 97 E320 shifting

tex thanks for response, you are right, the car gives the sensation that it is "slipping through the gears. Tranny and tourque converter were changed @ 45K by MB warranty, still the same, must be the particular year & model.

Its obvious your satisfaction and enjoyment has declined of what truly ought to be inspiring.

Why not direct your query to the MB service centre. They might be the best people to see about your problem. We had our steering problem in the 260E rectified at no charge - despite it being out a few years from the showroom.

Thats the only kind of after-service we get around here - that is if we ASKED.
