Question on Euro Model 500SE

Found a 1981 Model 500 SE 126 in the junk yard near Scranton, PA. It was badged only as a "5.0" on the right hand side. Had the short bumpers front and rear, E-code headlights + leveling and wipers. It had a few other odd things. Cloth seats, true dual exhaust with no cats, dealer installed power windows only in the front, crank windows rear. manual sunroof. The plate on the door frame said that it was "converted overseas by conti motors germany" VIN is WDB12603612009173 on the tag. on the vehical body, the original VIN was stamped out in X's and the new one (that I listed here) is the same as the ones on all the tags.

Wondering what I should take off this car. the main thing I am wondering about it might this car have the better rear end ratio, or better yet, could it have an LSD?

Well, the manifolds would be nice.. I would take them, the bumpers, head lights, head light wipers.. Diff is most likely a 2.24..might be an LSD>.have a look underneath and see if it has the ACHTUNG bage on one of the bolts stating that this diff needs special fluid etc...

I'd grab the EZL...and what ever ancilaries you can fit in your pockets :-P

Remember, that diff will only fit the early rear subframe.

I bet that car screamed when it was new.

yeah, it really was a pretty nice car to this day, and when it was new I'll bet it was a big attention getter... obviously fast too It's a real shame, the car had an "ABANDONED" sticker from the city of Scranton still on the glass. rust was minimal, and it would probably have run with not too much work. I would have bought the entire thing if I could have!

the diff will be going into my Propane injected 1983 300-SD, should help for the highway top speed, and will fit into my 83 model I intend to install an intercooler, up the boost to around 15 PSI, max out the full load spring, and adjust the ALDA to spec. I'll obviously keep an eye on my EGT's to be sure I am in safe boost ranges, but I do expect to have around the same torque as the 500-SE would make. Well... we'll see!
