ONLY USE MERCEDES-BENZ COOLANT. If you do a search, there have been many topics on this. ONLY MB COOLANT

Mark,
Use any brand of antifreeze you want. I have used Prestone in Mercedes for 34 years, and never had any problems. This week I will be replacing the third radiator in 9 months in the 126 chassis Mercedes. Guess what? All three had the Mercedes Glysantin G05 antifreeze in the cooling system. Coincidence? Maybe. Use the antifreeze that 80% of American motorist use. If it causes damage to your engine, you can sue Honeywell(the owner of Prestone), or wait a while and sue General Electric. They are trying to buy Honeywell.
What is it about Mercedes that they require a 'different' antifreeze?

We are also the home of Valvolene the maker of the Mercedes coolant Glysantin G05.

Mark,
Do a search on COOLANT / ANTIFREEZE, and then make the choice for yourself. Though I would never, nor ever recommend, to put regular antifreeze in your Mercedes. Just do the search and then come to your own conclusion.

Hmmm a trick question...

What type coolant is compatable with MB coolant, why MB coolant of course. Don't mix anything else in with your MB coolant because it may cause solid particles to precipitate out of the coolant which may effectively clog your radiator.

It has been said by some that it doesn't matter the color of the coolant, but you have to drain and flush (and drain and flush and drain and flush etc) to ensure you have removed all of the old coolant. I used MB coolant when I refilled the system after a radiator boiling and new hoses, just because. It wasn't that much more than any of the stuff I could have gotten at the local Pep Boy's. I had no idea what the prior owner had in there, so I flushed and flushed (5X) just to be sure the system was clean.

I have to admit, I like the odd color of the MB coolane, and the best part is I can see through the coolant, to see the condition of the core tubes.

All that said, coolant has been one hot topic round here. You have the Green grassy side and the straw side. Try a search on coolant and see what I mean.

It would be interesting to hear what Donnie Drummonds(Benzmac), Steve Brotherton(SteveFl) and M.B.DOC have to say about this coolant issue.

I'm due, no wait ... the 300SE is due for a coolant flush and change next week. It has been almost a year since the last change.

Might hang on to see what comes around. Am still trying to make a choice between Redline (as recommended by Merv) or MB coolant.

How many times did you say I must repeat the flush process?

Y.M.Sin,
If you will refer to the faciory manual, you will find that you flush twice after the degreasing solution, and three times after the acid(decalcifaction, derusting) solution. And don't forget to remove the thermostat before starting the flushing procedure. You won't have to rinse it before you replace it. Another thing you won't have to worry about,is getting the citric acid(lemon acid)on your hands. It will not hurt you. Have you ever grated lemons to make real old fashion lemonade, or watched your mother while she grated the lemones. No lost hands or fingers.
Whoever posted awhile back about the evil effects of citric acid and warned us about not getting any on our hands, must have confused it with sulfuric (battery acid). Now that is something that can be detrimental to your skin and clothing.
