Coolant Temperature Sensor

Hi All

This is becoming a bit of a nightmare for me. I have a single pin coolant temperature sensor. I replaced it and the new one, I realised in a few days, was not reading any resistance. I exchanged it for a new one and the new one within one day EXPLODED! Well maybe exploded is a bit of an exaggeration but really, the metal pin is missing and the plastic surround is cracked. My connector is missing the head cover and only the metal connector remains.

How is this happening?? Can there be some electrical fault shorting out the coolant sensor and ruining them? Am I getting a bad batch of sensors? Has anyone come across this before?

Regards

Hi Guys

I checked the voltage to the sender from the ECU and it was reading 12.27V. The temp gauge voltage by comparison is 7.5 V so I think the voltage being sent is too high thus frying the sensor.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey guys

I can't believe no one knows about the single pin type coolant temperature sensor???

I traced the sensor wire and it in series with the aux fan switch and it goes to the fuel pump relay (terminal 15 and 30 - battery?) and not to the Jetronic computer (pin 21).

Need some help here!!
