Well, it wasn't a lifter.... I threw a rod. My dad went to the mechnic today to go look at the findings.... Cylinder #3 was the culprit... So now, I am faced with a dilemma. What to do. :(

The engine was ticking but it threw a rod? Usually when an engine throws a rod, there is a hole in the side of the block. I'm confused.

Yes, are you sure it didn't spin a rod bearing? Or perhaps a noisy wrist pin? I guess it's hard to know fully without disassembly. Either way, it sounds like something is shot - sorry to hear it. I was under the impression that our M103 bottom ends were nearly bulletproof. I always used the general rule of 250K for a head and 500K for the bottom end...

Thats what my dad told me. I do know what the mechanic says and what my dad says are two different things. I will call him later today when I am out of class.

As for the motor, this is te first time we have ever had to open up the motor. Up until this point, it has just been maintainence.

How does the lifter look like? Mine needs to be replaced shortly. Can you get the parts online?
