Fuel Level sending unit in 107

My fuel guage is erratic in my 1980 500SL 107 body and I was going to chang the fuel guage in the gas tank. It looks pretty easy, but are there any special safety precautions to take when doing this? I was taught early in life to be very wary of fuel tanks containing gasoline.

unplug the battery and make sure you didn't just walk into the garage after running around your living room carpet in a thick set of socks :-P

Besides if it blows up you won't have much time to worry;-)
