Where is the engine serial number located.
I want to check if the engine in the car is the original. It's a 5.6 v8 117 series. I assume that there is a serial number cast into the block somewhere. I need help locating it.

Mine's M-100, but it is at the end of the block right at the trans bellhousing .
Driver's side. Top of block behind intake manifold. probably need a dentist's mirror or similar. |
Is it cast into the block or is it a sticker? I see a sticker that is aged and not readable.

mine is cut into the metal

Give me your VIN and I'll tell you what the engine number was when the car was new.

I already have that. I need to read the engine and see if it is the original. The only numbers I read on the left side of the block near the bell housing are;
117 011 2401 - I know this is a part number since I have the same number on a spare engine in stock. 0912/8 - Not sure what this is and it is different on the spare engine. According to records my engine number should be; 117 968 1209 5172 Car VIN: WDBCA39E7MA570554 Can you tell anything from this? Thanks. |
Engine#
Driver side of engine, on engine block, just ahead of tranny bell housing. You will need a flashlight and a good set of eyes. It is stamped into the block. If you look straight down just about under where the window washer squirter on the hood is, you should see it.

I think the number is 17267 - dosent seem like enuf digits. 3 digits of 17267 is only a partial match to 117 968 1209 5172 at the last 3 digits.
Would you say this qualifies as a match? |
That ain't it
Nope...
That looks like a manifold that has RAISED cast-in numbers. Not sure what the 5 recessed numbers are. The engine number is stamped and thus will be recessed into the metal. Look straight down the firewall, it is almost inline with it. If your engine compartment is a little dirty it may be covered with dust or debris. |
Found them. Thanks everybody for the help.
