I sprung a leak in my fuel line that runs along the drivers side of the car. What size and type of hose do I need to replace it? Will I need any special tools or fittings to do the job?

The car is an '85 300TD.

Are you talking about the cigar hose that returns fuel from the main fuel filter to the metal tubing that goes under the car to the tank? Or, are you talking about the metal tubing under the car?

I'm talking about the tubing that is under the car. It looks like I have 3 tubes, 1 is a brake line, and 2 are fuel lines (1 to the pre-filter and 1 to the fuel pump).

Do you know the size/type I need to replace it with?

You could measure the od and id of the tubing from your car. If I were you, I would try and find the tubing off a junker.

Not a good leak to have. Is that upstream or down stream of the fuel pump. On the fuel injected gas cars, the lines carry pressurized fuel.

The line will be 9 or 11 mm (about 5/16" or 3/8"). Replacement metal lines can be purchased as a bulk coil and then bent and flaired to match the original. If you have access to a pick-a-part junk yard, you might get lucky and snagg a used one there.

5/16 rubber tubing and 2 hose clamps will fix the problem permanently and inexpensively. Problem probably caused by rust so check other parts of the fuel line for leaks.
