This little thing sits up in the dash on the passenger's side below the speaker. I am to understand that this device blows air from the cabin into the climate control system so that it can properly regulate the temperature. The impeller on mine has developed a nasty squeal which I have tried in vain to silence. I finally had to resort to jamming it with a stick in order to stop it. The problem now, of course, is that the climate control is out of whack. The system has a difficult time keeping a constant temperature, especially in winter.

Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know how to replace this part? I would be grateful for any advice or guidance.

You can order a new motor for this temp sensor (at fastlane) and exchange it.

MBenz

Thank you very much for the reply. Do you have experience with this part? Is it difficult to remove? I'm not familiar with how to pull down the lower portion of the dash, so any assistance you can provide will be highly appreciated.

Cheers

1989 300SE...is it a W126 or a W140?

Personally I have no experience with both models, but normally mercedes has the lower dash panels screwed to the dash...

greetingz,

On mine, simply remove the glove box by popping the plastic "rivets" around the inside edges and I get full access to the fan. As it is a sucker, rather than a pusher, perhaps it has ingested something that makes it squeal. You might look down the throat to see if that has happened and, in any case, I'd shoot a shot of something like WD-40 into the impeller area to see if it helped reduce the noise.

Thanks Ron. I am able to see the impeller from an opening in the right hand corner of the dash and I did spray WD40, but it didn't silence the squeal. Full replacement is necessary, unfortunately. Thanks again.
