W202 Trailer Hitch

I have a very light utility trailer that I'd like to tow with my '97 C36. When we were in Germany last summer, I saw all kinds of little cars with trailer hitches. I'm sure there's some easy way to install a hitch and wiring harness that can connect my C36 to my trailer. Any thoughts?

Best Regards,
Rob

Maybe to just get the ball rolling for you, you could maybe try U Haul for a light hitch. Maybe one of the small square receiver hitches would look a bit slicker. Wiring, probably better off custom making or having a good MB tech make it up for you. On the hitch, I'd probably look (again) at U Haul or if you can find a good fabrication shop. For a light load I'd think in terms of through the trunk pan with about 1/8" thick reinforcement strap in the trunk? You know anyone in Germany who could find out what they do over there for all these cars? Or didn't you specifically see a 202 with a hitch?

Thanks for your thoughts, Gilly. I'm sure I could have somebody fabricate something that would work, but I was hoping to find something that was factory engineered and completely bolt-in without any required cutting or drilling. I don't really remember whether I saw one on a W202, but I did see other Mercedes-Benzes with hitches and they don't look anything like the hitches we have here - very long, coming up from beneath and behind the bumper cover. When I get home tonight, I'll take a closer look at my car to see if there is any bolt holes that look like they're for this purpose.

Best Regards,
Rob

I asked a friend to look through EPC to see if he could spot something. I almost want to say I did see something once for a hitch for a particular car somewhere in EPC. Worth a shot.

Da'Lan makes a hitch for the C class, 2500 pound capacity, pricey though.

PS - could have an exhaust tip issue with the C36.

That freind replies: There is a part for a hitch. It is not advailable here. The parts have a number but it is not good per the local MB Shop

202 310 XX 05 hitch

XX:= 03, 04 depending on your vin number. 05 has no vin number attached to it.

202 310 YY 56 Ball

YY:= 03 or 06 Depending on your vin

202 540 23 07 Harness

Thanks Andrew.
Gilly replies: Does original poster have a friend in Europe who could check out these numbers? It's possible these numbers won't work in the US because MB doesn't want to worry about liability issues by selling the hitch in the US. Maybe a friend in Europe could buy the unit and ship it to you.
