What Are the Most Valuable Salvage Parts of a W124?

1989 260E
223,000 miles

I want to pick the most valuable, re-sellable components from my car before I salvage it. At the top of my list is:

1.) Ignition Control/EZL

What else should I remove?

it appears you have a 260e. is that the car you are salvaging or is it a different 124?

It's the 260e, yes.

If its got a working Evaporator... thats worth some change. People will always buy wheels if they're in tolerable shape. US DOT spec headlamps are worth less than their Euro counterparts but you may find someone who was in a fender bender or the like. Someone might want to replace their Zebrano. The electronic seat control units in the doors are worth pulling. Does it have an airbag? That would certainly sell.

I helped strip a car with my brother and when we were finished it didn't have tires, wheels, or doors (among other things.) Still the salvage company agreed to take it (after whining).

WHunter: Thanks for the scoop.

EliotW:

Including your recommendations, my "pick & grab" list is now:

EZL
Fuel Distributor
Airbag
Seat Control Units
Tires

My lights are already Bosch Euros, but the lenses were shattered. Otherwise, I would definitely pull those too.

I just want a few high-value parts to make the salvage (significantly) more valuable than what the ins. co. offers.

Heres my list of what I would pull

- steering wheel/air bag
- climate control
- interior wood trim (depends on the condition)
- instrument cluster/LCD temp gauge
- all switches
- cruise control amp
- ABS pump
- ECU/control units (?)
- doors/glass
- tail lights
- updated lower body panels/cladding (if your car has it - I know people do this upgrade on w201s - not sure if its as easy on the 124)

Add: Windshield wiper assy. Big bucks and they do fail.
Blower speed controller located under blower. $330.00. Just put one in wife's car.
Fuel pump relay.
Fuel pumps if good.

These are great to add to the list -- thanks.

I am considering also just selling the car whole, and trying to determine a fair price.

I'd be motivated by $800 to $1,000. Is that realistic?
