Do you see anything wrong with this engine

Hi, I know this is just a picture but your opinions would be appreciated.
I am looking to buy an 96 c220. Does the engine look okay from the picture the top of the engine looks slightly beige and I am not sure if that is normal. They are asking 8500.oo for the car. Thank you Attachment 35054 |
It's a cosmetic problem only. The original dealer never cleaned it up from the factory.

Cover just discolored. I have seen a lot of them like that. Nothing wrong with it, just the material they used for the engine cover gets discolored due to heat. I think MB never imagines there owners actually opening a hood. My W203 has gone through three hood pads that shrunk due to moistures, and no I have never sprayed water in that engine compartment. Dealer always wonders why I notice it. I tell them I actually do pop the hood once in a while. Kind of like the time I had a thump in the rear when sliding the ass around corners. I thought the service advisor was going to pass out when I described it. He told the Tech and the tech gave him a strange look. He had to say when I was driving spiritedly it happened. Had to actually take the tech out and of course it did not do it.... Silly MB not thinking people will actually drive the car as it was built to be driven! :D:D:D:D

It's a "Cosmoline"-type coating that came from the factory...protects the alloy engine surfaces from corrosion due to exposure to salt air (during shipping).
Funny though, it usually wears off over time...strange to see it so prevalent on a valve cover after a decade! What I DID notice is the engine in the pic is missing the black plastic cover that covers the cam area... |
Thank you all. I did not purchase that one after all.
