Transmission Leak
 

Hi Guys

Yesterday I wrote the following post and today i managed to go to the shop.

The guy at the shop put the car on the lift and ask me to wait at the lobby. 20 minutes later he came in and called me to the bay and showed that the oil is leaking from the oil seal ( which I can't see and was told that it is located between the engine and transmission). Also told me that if I want to repair it is require to pull the transmission out ($$$$$). Is it possible? the car have 70,000 miles on it. It was not leak any single drop before i asked them to change the transmission oil. It is dripping 2-4 drops a day. He told me that eventually it will stop dripping. Please help with your advises.

K if they serviced it the way they should have, they pulled the plug on the torque converter. IF they aren't careful they may have neglected to remove the old aluminum seal ring on the torque converter and caused the leak. Yes it's not unheard of at ALL for the front pump to leak, but situation sounds very fishy, wondering about the seal ring on the torque converter first.

Correct me if I am wrong. I read in other posts that my year and model does not have the torque converter plug. If it is true, then what is the possible cause to leak. I love my car so much and I pamper it and not even let my sons touch it. I feel very uncomfortable with this. Should I ask another mechanic (MB) to look into and reservice the whole thing again?

I had a simular surprise happen in a 32.500 service replacing transmission fluid and filter. I purchased a new filter kit and transmission & torque converter drain plugs with proper gaskets and handed my car over to a local West Los Angeles Mercedes service to have the service done.

It was not till the next day that i noticed the leak on the floor . Now mine you I know mechnical things fail I have 37.1313 on the odometer of my 1992 300E not a leak from her since I purchased alway kept clean.

I found out the Technican was a young starter mechanicwho had hiswisdom teech removed the day before. What in tarnation was he doing at work the next day and how did I end up having him work on my car.

I returned with the leak , it seems they say I had alot of sludge in the belly pan that they cleaned up BS!!!! They tighten the plug plus they left loose.
Next time I will be doing the service my self.

This is not an attack on good trained Mercedes-technicans. Only ones that should not be near a car.

722.6 transmissions have a vent hole in the top of the oil pump, if the transmissions were over filled , the fluid will burp out of the vent, simulating a front seal leak,

. The electrical harness connector also leaked on the early models 722.6 transmission.

Get a second opinion, and have the fluid level check.

I saw in one post that you are the transmission specialist. I will follow your advise and wait for a few days. The level seems fine to me when I measure at hot and engine running. It shows middle of 80C high and low. If there is no improvement by a week I will see another mechanic. By the way where are you located? I live very closed to NYC. Can you give me your shop number if you have one. i might come and visit if no one in my area can handle this issue.

I always do other services which I can do it from top. This is the service that requires to lift the car. I don't have that type of facility and I haver to let someone do it. At first I was thinking to use topsider but later think about the filter also have to change and let others do it. I regretted.

Hey I didn't realize this was a .6 tranny. You should mention that in your posts, I had to go in to your personal profile to see what car/s you have.
MORE than likely you don't have the plug in the torque converter. They dropped it about the time they went to touchshift (MY2000), but would worth double-checking.
