On my 1977 300d the automatic transmission shifts to early into 3rd (or 4th if you consider granny low 1st).I have been using the column shifter to keep transmission from shifting to early.I am wondering if this can possibly hurt the transmission or the transmission linkage. The transmission does not have the vaccum controlled modulator,so the problem is not vaccum related. I have tried adjusting the linkages, but this only seems to make it shift to late into 2nd, making the transfer from 1st to 2nd very hard.If there is any other adjustment I dont know about it.Anyway, any help would be great and this message board RULES.

FWIW, in the ten months I have owned my car, I have driven 20,000+ miles in which I was manually shifting the trans because it shifts too early. I have not experienced any trans problems yet.
