190E Dash removal - HELP!

I am working on a 1992 190E 2.6 and I would appreciate any help I can get. Does anyone have any tips they can share with me in regards with removing the dash to access the heater core? I have unscrewed all fasteners and the dash moves freely but I still can't seem to slide it off to get to the heater core. Do the instrument gauges need to be disconnected or something? Or does the gauge cluster come apart from the dash somehow? Or is there something else I have overlooked that is keeping me from pulling the dash out? Any tips would help me a lot. Thanks

Yes, the instrument cluster has to come out and the center console. Also the inside covers of the A-pillars need to be removed, along with the dash speakers.

Heater Core

I have the dash out of the way now... but to get to the heater core I have to remove the entire air-box, right? Where and how many fasteners are holding the unit in place? What else might I have to remove in order to take it out? Thanks for the help

Should be about 4 bolts around the edges. They are studs attached to the firewall and nuts on the box side. Then you need to unclip all the little clips around the airbox to get the airbox apart. The core is in the middle. Undo the lines going to the core before removing the airbox. They may even be blocking the lower two bolts from view. Disconnect and of course mark all vacuum lines to the box as well.

Do you have the heaqer box out of the car? What kind of car is it?

For a 124, at least...

If you are only replacing the heater core, you do not have to take the box out.

If you have the box out and are trying to open it, you must remove everything from the outside along with all the little clips. The box will then split down the middle but it my be stuck together a bit

My car is 1987 MB 190E 2.3 (W201). I take out the complete heater box and unclip all little clips, but it still hold together. I will try to split down the middle tomorrow. Thanks
