I just bought the european headlight assemblies for my 92 300D 2.5.

I will be installing PIAA bulbs that are close to HID lights. The question is, there bulbs are:

Single Bulb: 15260
Bulb Type: H4
Wattage: 60/55w = 135/125w
4150K
Technology:

Platinum Series with
Super White and
XTRA Technology

Xtreme White Technology

WILL THE 60/55W=135/125W, WORK WITH MY LIGHTS OR WILL IT BURN THE WIRING?

There info can be found at: http://www.piaa.com/h4bulbs.html

You risk burning the wiring but it'll probably melt the headlamp socket.

BTW, don't get the PIAAs. The Raybrigs are better.

60/55w bulbs will work fine without problems. Thought you were using 135/125w bulbs. The Platinums are the same as Osram's blue bulbs just, more expensive and appear a little whiter fractionally. You can buy them at any Mc Parts store for about $20/pair. GE Super Blue and Wagner have the equivalent but, forgot the name. It is made by Philips for the Wagner.

Hello S60, thanks for the reply.

I was confused about that myself and wanted to make sure. Its weird how they do the 60/55w=135/125w.

Does anybody know what that means or why? I am guessing one means the input and the other is the output.

PIAA gets their Hyper Platinum white COLOR with a coating that filters out some of the yellow. They also rewind the filament for more light output in the center of the beam than at the periphery. The center is the Hot Spot that they claim the "equal to 135 watts output". The rest of the beam drops off. You can't filter out some of the light and wind up with more light, anymore than you can remove a slice from an apple pie and claim it is now equivalent to 2 whole pies! Many different sites have reviewed the PIAA bulbs and foumd them to be not as good as standard H4 halogens in terms of light on the road. Do a search, or go to http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/info/bulbs/superwhites/

If you just have to have a blue-white light and don't mind loosing useful beam (especially in bad weather), by all means go with the rice bulbs. If you are determined to get the most light on the road, go with Hella +30 or Philips Premium, or if you can find them, Philips Vision Plus.

JCE- Rice bulbs? Wait a second, I dont want my car looking like a messed up honda accord suped up to look like a jag with a big spoiler that looks like a shopping cart! well maybe I was exaggerating, but seriously speaking, I DO NOT WANT IT TO LOOK REAL CHEEZY

I want the effect of the new BMW's, Lexus/infinitis, etc. I like the xenon look.

If these bulbs look really stupid and fake, please let me know in advance so I dont buy them.

I dont want to spend 600 bucks for a xenon conversion kit by hella or phillips on a car I hate and dont plan on keeping very long, lol.

Just for your information, I bought and used the high wattage "super white" bulbs on my previous car (a Honda CRX). Three things:
a) Although they were higher wattage and consumed 50% more current (i know cause I checked it with my digital ammeter), they produced much LESS light than the stock bulbs.
b) They only lasted a couple of months.
c) I got pulled over by the cops and was given a fixed ticket to have them removed. In my question "What is wrong with them", the cop answered: "Only the police are supossed to have blue bulbs". The cop might have had a serious case of color-blindness since these bulbs were only SLIGHTLY blueish, but nevertheless the point is that you may get in trouble with the police.

I said that they consumed 50% MORE current as expected.

I'm happy with my super whites.
I found them to put out more light and whiter light than the standard Phillips H4's. I also aligned my euro's a little "cross eyed" so I have a large area out front of intense light. I did this because during night time I usually travel in suburbs with the possibility of pedestrians and I also drive in areas with curvy roads without any street lights etc... I'm usually going 80 km/h or slower so this
"cross eyed" set up works with a distinct advantage. With the beams focused out front the light is VERY WHITE with no yellow. It honestly looks close to daylight which is nice because I can see EVERYTHING in my path this way. It isn't as white as the xeonons in my friends father's BMW 540i but, still quite white none-the-less.

If I were going on a trip where I would be driving at higher speeds at night, I would aim the lights differently because with my highbeams on currently I would miss things like reading road signs at high speed and that kind of thing. If you do drive a fair amount at night you should think about aligning your lights this way. You'll understand what I'm talking about. These lights now are almost as good as my father's '01 Volvo S40 which also has excellent lights with bulbs that are as white as these PIAA Superwhites. The Volvo's lights are on par with the '01 C240 easily. No xeonon but, compared with some other makes are impressive.

I recommend the PIAA Superwhites.
Good luck with what you decide!

Public enemy- what state do you live in? I live in MO (missouri) and so far I do not know of a law like that. But I dont feel like getting pulled over and wasting my time. Its bad enough I get pulled over for speeding quite often, lol.

Im sure these lights will work better than my stock 124 US headlights no matter what. Those lights SUCK! Sometimes I have to drive with my fog lights on in the curvy roads, etc cause they are so poorly designed.

I live in California. The guy who sold me the bulbs (mail order company from another state, I do not remember where), told me that he had had quite a few customers having problems with the law in other states too, so it is not only a California thing.
