02 C230K Convenience Opening Problem

I have a 2002 C230K Sport Coupe.

The convenience opening feature (windows and sunroof) for the drivers side stopped working. The infrared sensor still works though as I can still lock and unlock the vehicle from the drivers or passengers side. I tried reprogramming the key, checked batteries, all OK. Convenience opening/closing still works on the passenger side though. Any idea what could be causing this and if there is any other way to try and fix it myself?

Bought the car used as an MB lease return. It looks immaculate but looks arent everything as this is the THIRD minor problem to go wrong with it in the past five weeks since I bought it! First the sunshade got jammed. Then the electric arm for the climate control system broke. I cant wait to see how much that one will cost for repair.. kinda dissapointed.

Thanks in advance for the help!

From my understanding, they are two separate systems.

The key uses radio frequency for lock / unlock. Infrared is used for the convenience window / sunroof opening and closing.

Have you noticed the range on your locking / unlocking has decreased?

The key has two separate transmission systems in it, and infrared uses much less power, therefore a weak battery would affect the infrared system before it affected the radio frequency unlocking.

You may want to change the battery in your key. I had a key that barely worked and $6 in batteries from radio shack made it brand new.

There is a section in your owners manual about it.

Take care,

George

Thanks George, Ill try it out. I was doing some more homework online and now I just hope its not a faulty sensor. Ill keep posting if its not the batteries. :)

RF is for the door lock and unlock and does nothing for the Convenience stuff, that is InfraRed only. The Infrared is also there as a backup to the RF. The RF is in the rear glass.

Most likely you have a bad door sensor for the IR. Since it works on the passenger side and not driver. Or it could be a bad door module, but if all else works in the door then I doubt that. If the sun is shining at the IR sensor it will not work well. My IR only works from about 3 foot from the door and has to be aimed right at the handles.
