The front pump has a rubber o ring; the pump has to come apart. Pump, torque converter seal, easy to change and a pump gasket. If you have no transmission experience, learning on a Mercedes can be very costly. More often then not, the o ring is leaking.

Seems that some also had riveted fluid coupling front hubs that leaked. I actually use to TIG weld them up. Have probably done 5-6 successfully. Used to be a pretty good welder before bifocals.

I just repaired a leak on my '69 in July: http://www.sl113.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5373. It isn't too difficult. Getting to a couple of the transmission-to-engine bolts was a bit of a fuss. I have a tip for getting the top-most pair of these bolts. Remove the carpet over the transmission tunnel to reveal an inspection plate at the top of the tunnel and another on the right side. If you remove these plates you have easy access to the bolts.
