1995 C 280, runs ruff until restarted
 

My 95 C280 is starting to run rough. Missing and cutting out at times. I have found that if I shut the car off and restart it, it will run normal.
Although the problem seems to be getting worse. Sometimes even when I restart it, it will go right back to running rough again.
Can anyone send some advice my way on where to start to fix this problem.

Your cars engine management system identifies misfires and shuts down the offending cylinders fuel injectors till the next key cycle, where the process starts over.

You probably have a secondary ignition misfire and it has probably been fault coded in the HFM controller. You need to read the codes or just try replacing all the connectors beneath the three colis. A coil also could be the problem but the intermittancy points to a connector. Replace all three they are cheap.

How often should I replace the connectors beneath the coils? I did this about a year ago, when we first bought the car. Is this something I should do every six months or so?
And do I have to take the car to a dealer in order to get the trouble codes? Is that something that the car will have to be hooked up to a diagnoastics machine in order to get?

I almost forgot, there are a few other things wrong with the car that are minor but if possible I would like to track down what is causing them. The radio antena no longer goes up, and the head rest in the back won't go down. I can't find any blown fuses and I don't know where else to look for what might cause these problems.
Anyone with advice or similar problems I would love to hear from.

I've got the same problem. I'm not mechanically inclined, where are the coils located at and what do the connectors look like. Is this a difficult job to do and do you have any pictures that i can view. Thanks

Have you checked to see if your OVP has been updated to the newer part #. ?????

No, I just had the fuel filter replaced hoping that would solve the issue. No luck. Where is the OVP located at and what does it look like? Is it a part that I can replace myself. You can probably tell that I'm not accustomed to doing this sort of work myself, but when your car reaches 192,000 miles....saving money is a premium. Thanks

yeah, it is saying that the new part is P2056-70038. Is that a part that can be easily replaced? It looks very simple.

That is the link I gave you just so you knew what the part looked like.. I asked that you use the search feature and plug in "OVP" so you would then know all about the OVP , the old part#, the new part#, etc..so I did not have to type it all out for the 1000th time ..that is why we have a Search/Archieves feature. If you use it ,you will then have all those questions answered at your fingertips.
A very useful feature..I should have been more clear.

But , here ..I did it for you.
These are the numbers and you have to pull yours to see which # you have..it is on the side of the OVP..if it is the old #, change it to the one I linked you to.
And do a search to familarize yourself w/OVP , as they are a very common troublesome part on your chassis..
