Hi, me again.

Just changed the brake pads and rotors (or discs) on my car today and the braking actually got worse !

I had a great stop with the old, rusty, scored rotors and pads, but now need an extra six inches to a foot to stop.

Any ideas why ?

I used OE - ATE brand pads and rotors, I can't figure what might be wrong. Do these things need time to work in ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Yes they need time to work in. On a couple of racing circuits I've seen they will burn in a set of pads during practice then install before the race.

From what approximate speed is your stopping distance increased 6 inches to a foot? It may be more a perception of lowered performance from a grossly different "feel" with the new pads and rotors rather than a real, significant decrease in effectiveness. And they will get better shortly. Ease them into service for the first hundred miles if possible for best results.

Ate rotors & or pads aren't OE at all. Yes they make calipers & master cylinders but the pads & rotors are made for them in Italy. NOT close to OE quality!!

Thanks, I wasn't aware that ATE weren't OE. I hope nobody out there has had any negative experiences with their products. They are both labelled "made in Germany"

I would say that I was judging my stopping distance by stopping from about 60 KM/H or about 45 MPH. I will take it easy for the next bit or so, and stay off the highway when possible.
