MMO has solved the tapping problem for me. I put some in the crankcase and some in the gas tank every once in a while. As far as I can tell, it helps dissolve the varnish and carbon that build up between moving parts over time.

Thank you for all your help, I will change the oil with Mobile 1. One thing I forgot to mention, the noise first occurred after driving on a long trip about 2,000 miles and just after an oil change with Quaker State 5W50. It was only after I arrived at my destination that I noticed the ticking sound on cold engine warm up and checked the oil only to find it was overfilled by about one quart. Using an oil extractor I removed just over one quart to get to the correct level. I am not sure if the high oil level or the long drive had anything to do with it? I like to have the oil level just under the full mark after it has sat for five minutes at full operating temp. It is longest trip I have taken in this car, what a wonderful
long distance car.

Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO)

We swear by the stuff here on the farm. Use it in cars, tractors, even airplanes. I would definitely try some MMO - about 1 pint - and see if that helps.

$.02

the pinging if that is what you have traditionally is from poor fuel quality or over advanced iginition timing.

the last car i noted it on was my euro 280e when run with regular instead of premium

But I've ALWAYS run premium... 91 or 93 at all times. I am running 91 with a bottle of techron and I still have the ticking at acceleration.
