I tried using an inspection mirror and looking through the oil filler hole. Some say you can do it but I couldn't tell for sure if it was a single or dual chain. I pulled off the valve cover. It only took 15 min to take the cover off and there was no mistaking it. It's either a single chain like heavy duty bicycle chain or a dual row chain. It's best to use a new gasket when replacing the cover.

The quickest & easiest way to identify the two types of chain is by the "SHAPE" of the holes in the gear. look thru the oil cap
Oval vs round..... Oval holes are on the double row gears! Round ones on the single row gears
